Sustainable workplaces
Companies account for 70% of the Netherlands' carbon dioxide emissions. Workplaces are thus a key place to achieve energy savings. Employees want to play a part in making their workplaces more sustainable, but they do not always have the means or the opportunity.
Through this Sustainable Workplace project, the FNV Trade Union Confederation, FNV Bondgenoten (retail, services, industrial, metal, transport and other sectors) and ABVAKABO FNV (public sector) want to ask attention for and contribute to a more sustainable workplace. By means of examples, tools and support, we wish to help trade union activists, works councils and employees to find innovative ways to decrease the work related use of energy and resources and make their organization become more sustainable.
Another part of our project is including green working conditions in the negotiations on collective labour agreements.
What will we do?
The FNV will work with employees to make their workplaces become more sustainable. Employee instruments aimed at a more social, energy efficient and environmentally friendly company management, and methodologies to increase the participation of employees are currently hardly available. Also best practices, which deserve following, are scarce and not well-known.
Therefore, FNV Bondgenoten and ABVAKABO FNV are looking for companies and/or organizations where employees are interested in participating in our project. These will become the focus organizations where we want to inspire, motivate and mobilize. We will aim at making specific agreements, which are supported by both employees and employers in the organizations, on common targets and on how to achieve these targets together. Such agreements could be on measures to increase the energy and material efficiency, homeworking arrangements, corporate social responsibility etc.
In addition to the work in the focus organizations, we will develop an interactive website for and by employees. This website will offer instruments that can help make the workplace become greener. It will also be a place where employees and employers can exchange experiences, ideas and opinions. Through this website, the project offers practical tools for members who wish to create a more sustainable workplace.
